The Posey County Community Foundation Celebrated 30 Years Of Giving
The Posey County Community Foundation celebrated 30 Years of Giving on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at the Ribeyre Gym in New Harmony. This 30th Anniversary celebration honored the past, present, and future by announcing additional grants to local nonprofits serving Posey County and a special matching gift opportunity.
Since July 2022, the Celebrating 30 Years of Giving Grant Program allowed advisory board members to recommend $3,000 grants to local nonprofit organizations. The following advisory board members collectively granted $45,000 to these local nonprofit organizations:
· Jake McGennis, Children’s Learning Center of Posey County, Inc.
· Josh Orem, St. Peters UCC God’s Storehouse Food Pantry
· Shelley Powell, Griffin Community Ruritan Club Foundation
· Kathy Kanowsky, St. Philip Catholic School
· Weston Stewart, Posey County Historical Society
· Kathryn Lee-Kalsch, Posey County Council on Aging
· Ashley Dorsam, Posey County Fair Association, Inc.
· Jody Pfister, MSD of Mt. Vernon, West, Marrs, and Farmersville Elementary Schools
· Jim Scarafia, St. Francis Xavier Church (Holy Angels Catholic Church Renovation Project)
· Michael Harshbarger, Posey County Domestic Violence Taskforce (WillowTree of Posey County)
· Maureen Barton, South Terrace Elementary School
· Joy Millay, Posey Humane Society/NewLife Rescue and Adoption
· Tony Noelle, Wadesville Center Township Volunteer Fire Department
· Jane Koch, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church (MAGIC Afterschool Program)
· Hans Schmitz, Zion Lippe United Church of Christ, Partners in Food Program
During the event, five nonprofit organizations crafted beautiful trees to help decorate the room. Attendees voted for their favorite tree and the recipient was awarded a $1,000 grant. Attendees also participated in a drawing to recommend additional grants to two local nonprofits. Those awarded grants at the event were:
· Poseyville Carnegie Public Library received a $1,000 grant award;
· Zion Lippe United Church of Christ, Partners in Food Program received a $100 grant award; and
· The Posey County Women’s Fund received a $100 grant award.
“Nonprofits are the heart and soul of our community, fueled by the passion and dedication of those who believe in making a positive difference. They are the architects of hope, the guardians of compassion, and the catalysts for change,” said Amy Smith, Regional Director of Community Impact and Engagement for the Posey County Community Foundation.
For the past 30 years, the Posey County Community Foundation has proven that the journey together is united in purpose and vision. With more than 100 established endowment funds, it is truly remarkable to note the growth experienced since the inception, growing to more than $11.8 million in assets, granting over $5.7 million in the community since inception.
To honor the celebration, a special matching gift opportunity is available now through June 30th. Any gift to the Posey County Community Foundation from $500 to $5,000 to any endowment fund will be matched, dollar for dollar. Funds are limited so act quickly.
Tamara Miley, Regional Director of Development for the Posey County Community Foundation stated, “Many gathered at the Ribeyre Gym in New Harmony to serve as a testament to the power of collaboration and the potential it holds to shape the course of our collective destiny.” She added, “The power to truly impact people in Posey County is given to each of us. How we utilize our time, talents, and treasure to is up to us. It is a responsibility that we should embrace wholeheartedly.”
In closing, Smith stated, “This evening was a testament to the power of unity and the unwavering commitment Posey County has shown to making our community a better place.”
